South East Cornwall Walking Festival 2016

Sat 10th - 16th September;

Last years walks included...

Words in the Woods: This year we kick off the festival with a storytelling walk in Kilminorth Woods near Looe. This will be a shortish walk aimed at children and people with disabilities...but anybody can come along. The walk will be part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, raising funds for CLIC Sargent. Local ‘celebrity’ Bill the umbrella man, will make an appearance to tell some of his Mazed tales.

Around The Great Phoenix Mine: Led by John Manley, local author and Chairman of the local branch of The Trevithick Society. The Great Phoenix Mine was owned by William West who is the subject of John’s latest book “William West – The Last Great Cornish Engineer.” The walk will be about 2.5 miles in total with the optional extra of going down to the valley bottom to see the wheel pit and slime works.

Parklife: Festival organiser Mark Camp invites you to join him for a walk around the Mt Edgcumbe Estate, looking at some of the hidden corners. Not only is this a great walk but there is something of interest for everybody, from gardening to military defences.

A Fowey River Ramble: Join Carol for a walk from Bodmin Parkway railway station following the Fowey River through the Lanhydrock estate and downstream past Restormel Castle towards Lostwithiel.

Castles & Creeks ; Another new walk for this year’s festival as we explore alongside the creeks of the Lynher River in the Saltash area finishing with a visit to Trematon Castle.

Hills, Mills and Silver Mines; A circular walk with Brian Oldham of Liskeard’s Walkers are Welcome group, combining Liskeard's Countryside Walk No: 4 and a disused lead/silver mine or two.
